 Manus manum lavat
« Thread Started on Jul 17, 2008, 3:34pm »

Twilight following sunset, it works like a clock.
The life of the sky is always the same, with few minor differences every given day.

Whether it be a few more clouds, a storm, or even snow.
But there is always a day, and always a night.
A start, and an end.

Walking Traverse Town vieled in a white cloak, Aevum's past few days have been as simple as the sky.

A few clouds, but the same repetitive motion over and over. He had been avoiding both the Dark Ones and the people of the Rebellion for some time now, though he hid from neither out of fear of his health.

The Dark Ones wanted his power, and if asked Aevum was in no position to reply. According to information he gathered in The World That Never Was, it appeared as though some internal strife occured within the Dark Ones, something that was enough to get even the higher-ups moving.

It was definately something big.

Though not as strong as the top members, eventually Aevum's assistance would be required, whether or not he was wanted.

But he didn't feel like killing right now.

After defending himself from Heartless while exerting as little force as possible, Aevum didn't feel like fighting anyone for awhile. He just wanted to rest.

Sighing, Aevum looked at some of the people to his left and right. Each worried that he may be an enforcer of the Dark Ones will. While he was of their faction, unless ordered to, Aevum did nothing to further their goals.

After a few more minutes of walking, Aevum stopped in front of a small building with a sign 'Corunum'
One of the few functioning restaurants in Traverse Town, Aevum frequented this place either late at night or by dusk in order to avoid what few customers still came to the place.

Walking in, Aevum noticed the place was not only completely quiet, but also devoid of customers. Grinning to himself as he approached the counter, Aevum put some munny on the counter and smiled, "Zinfandel."

The man at the register seemed to recognize Aevum right away, and as soon as Aevum dropped the munny to the counter, he was already beginning to reach for the bottle of Zinfandel.

"We're running out, you know." The man casually said, looking up into the dark viel the white cloak cast over Aevum's face.

". . ." Aevum waited as the man grabbed a glass and filled it with the wine. Smiling kindly at Aevum, he smoothly pushed the glass over to Aevum, who sat at the small bar without as much as making a noise, even while reaching out and drinking.

"After this, I hope you'll switch to Cranberry Juice, because thats all we got." The man squimishly said again, trying to hint to Aevum that soon he wouldn't be able to give Aevum the drink he had been having for the past year. Though he drank everyday, Aevum never drank more than a single glass in that time.

". . .Red Bordeaux?" The shine in Aevum's eyes became visible as he looked back up at the man, who sighed while running his hand through his balding hair.

"Heh. . . Yea I've got another shipment of that coming in next week." The man replied, a bit relieved that Aevum switched his preferred drink at the drop of a hat.

"You didn't happen to see two girls running around here, have you?" Aevum spoke up to the bartender, remembering the question Kaix had told him almost a week ago. Though he wasn't working at the moment, if there truly was internal strife within the Dark Ones Faction, Aevum had best solidify his loyalty amongst them should he want to remain on their good side.

After all, if the Dark Ones drop him, not even the Rebellion would pick him up.

"S-Sorry, thats not very specific. . ." The man scratched his head again, to which Aeuvm looked a bit perplexed.

". . . It wasn't meant to be." Aevum responded coldly, taking another small sip from his Zinfandel. Glaring up at the man, he shook his head repeatedly while fiddling with his fingers, "N-N-No! I doubt I've seen two people even come into this restaurant at the same time, let alone two women!"

". . . Red Bordeaux." Aevum sighed, moving his glare away from the man and putting a bunch of munny onto the counter, more than enough for the entire bottle.

"Y-Yes sir!" The man quickly turned around and went to grab Aevum's drink, not even bothering to take the munny on the table yet.

. . . . What now? Aevum frowned, feeling a bit uneasy as he began to realize that most likely even though he was loyal to his faction, with the recent betrayal they'd be suspecting everyone with the lowest output amongs the group.

Namely, him.

Sitting a good distance away on top of the bar table itself, Eru was holding a small shot glass in her hands. It was filled with milk and it was rather hard for her to lift, since she was only the size of a rag doll. "Eru can do this!" She lifted it higher over her hoping that she could chug it all down in one gulp, she was very spontaneous today. With the glass raising higher and higher it eventually got to the point to where the milk poured out of the glass and drenched the poor little angel child in cow pee. Eru placed the glass on the table and frowned. "Aw.. danget Eru's all wet."

She wasn't the smartest cookie you know. A smart person would of seen that coming and stopped, but I guess since shes so small her brain must be the size of a peanut, literally. Covered in milk she flew up from the table and levitated herself quickly to-wards the powder room. But she was to into herself that she wasn't watching where she was going. She hit the side of a mans arm, looking up to see a scary sight of man. He looked very intimidating and scary. "Ah! This man is scary! He can eat Eru up in one bite." She started to panic. "Eru's sorry!" Apologetic much?

Finishing his second glass of wine, Aevum decided that he was feeling better after his predictament.

However, just as he was about to get up, he felt something with the figure of a potato slam into his arm.

"Ah! This man is scary! He can eat Eru up in one bite. Eru's sorry!" Apologetic much?"

Looking down at the small little fairy-like creature, Aevum removed his hood so he could get a better look at the little thing.

Sure enough, it didn't seem much bigger then his hand, yet it seemed to function much like a person.

Smirking at the interesting little creature, Aevum nonetheless didn't speak yet. It didn't interupt him any, so there wasn't any reason to get mad, but he felt amused that this thing seemed to voice out her thoughts aloud.

Or was it normal to call him a scary man to his face?

Though he definitely wasn't saint material, he had never heard of himself being distinctly called scary before.

Was he scary? Even if he was of pale complexion and had red eyes, he DID have a white cloak. Didn't white make everything look happier?

"Just how scary am I?" Aevum said in a calm tone, looking down at the little fairy as if looking a bug, though Aevum had no hostility behind his eyes. Of course, it was hard to look at something less than a foot tall any way but a bug, but Aevum at least tried.

Anything that was considered an empire state building in Eru's world was scary. The man was huge! It would be a disaster if she didn't watch what she was doing. Not only was the man huge his eyes were very creepy. They were painted the color of hell and just gazing into the mans eyes you could tell he was evil. The man asked Eru a question. She stumbled at the thought of him hurting her if she replied wrong. "Eru don't like your eyes, they are scary." She certainly voiced her opinion, but at what cost?

Aevum waited patiently for the small creature to answer, but apparently he was a bit too frightening for the small thing to muster the courage. Eventually, the creature answered without hesitation or pause.

"Eru don't like your eyes, they are scary."

Aevum looked surprised at the creatures response. After a moment of being dumbfounded, Aevum sighed.

My eyes. . . If its true that the eyes are a reflection of one's soul, does that mean I am truly evil?

Have I finally sunken so low?

Am I. . .

Aevum snapped back to reality, sweat forming near his temple as he apparently was deep in thought. Looking back at the small creature, Aevum smiled, closing his eyes in the process, "Then I shall keep them closed for you."

Surely, now he must look normal. After all, with none of his past showing through his appearance, how could he seem evil?

He had never killed out of lust or hate, and had great respect for others' lives.

Or was there more to it than that?

Eru placed her index finger on top of her lips, she was thinking. "Now I look at you more Eru don't like your hair either." Stuck up little bugger she was. "Eru do like your coat though, Eru's favorite color is white." She sighed. "You have bad taste though, he he." This was the part when she would usually get flicked or something. "Eru can help you not be so ugly and mean, if you want Eru's help." She was being sympathetic, or atleast what she though was sympathetic. Deep down all Eru really wanted was a friend, but she didn't know how to go about it.

Listening to the little creatures constant complaints, Aevum felt himself getting agitated.

How could a little speck of life be eating away at his patience so easily?

He wasn't asking how he looked evil, he was asking if he gave off the feeling of evil. But of course, he was expecting answers from a fairy!

Suddenly, Aevum felt himself calm down, probably because the waiter put down another glass of Red Bordeaux next to him. Immediatelyt aking a sip, Aevum opened his eyes again. Looking straight ahead now that he was unable to bring himself to face the innocent sprite, Aevum spoke slowly, "I see. . . I really have gone too far haven't I?"

Glancing over at the small little creature, Aevum smiled, "How far can one go before they can no longer reach redemption?"

It wasn't the alcohol getting to him, it was just that Aevum felt this creature seemed innocent enough to give him the answers he longed for.

He had killed his own father.
It was something he regretted since the moment after killing him. Though he justified his actions by telling himself his father let thousands of innocents' hearts be stolen for his own sake, was he any different now?

He hadn't shown his father any mercy, did he himself deserve any?

Only if she knew what the word redemption meant she would be on track with this guys. But she didn't and she had to leave all of his questions left to him. This man had problems most likely with self confidence. "Eru thinks you should believe in yourself more." He was certainly asking allot. Eru couldn't understand why the man was talking about redemption, did he do something bad?

"Eru is still covered in milk, and freezing." A slobber of milk began to sag off of her sleeve. She was beginning to smell like sour milk as well, I hope this man wasn't expecting to take up to much of her time.

"Eru thinks you should believe in yourself more."

Aevum scoffed whlile finishing is third glass.
The generic answer that everyone says to anyone who questions themselves.

"I'll take what you said into consideration. . ."
Standing up from his seat, Aevum walked from the bar while glancing back at the little fairy, "- But I'm afraid this will probably be the last time we ever meet."

Ripping off a piece of his sleeve, Aevum tossed the warm leather towards the fairy. Leather was quite warm, and while it could hardly be considered alternate attire, it would at least give her something to keep herself warm until she could dry her clothes, or get herself some new ones.

Putting his hands in his pockets as he walked out of the restaurant, Aevum looked up at the dark sky.

He had been in there for quite awhile.

Walking down the road, a woman pointed at him with a vindictive look on her face, "Kch, walking in our town like you own the place, you make me sick!"

Looking back at the woman as if he had no idea what she was talking about, Aevum waited only a moment before ignoring her and walking away.

Even if I did change, I will still be seen as a Dark One, no matter how little I help them.

But its all for the greater good. The sooner this mess of worlds is ended, the sooner I can get back to my old life. It doesn't matter what I do in this 'continuum' as it will all be back to normal once it ends.

Then it hit him.

His eyes closed as a thought crossed his mind he never thought before.

"Manus Manum Lavat, 'One hand washes the other.'" Aevum looked at his hand with the revelation he had been looking for.

By following the Dark One's orders, he would inadvertantly cause rise to more heroes, some even stronger than himself. And if the Dark Ones should win, it would only mean that they were meant to win from the start.

If there were a god, who would he favor?

Though 'evil' is seen as such by its difference in morals, should the universe's morals change, they would no longer be deviants, but seen as 'normal'.

Going down a path darker and less traveled, this shaky logic was all that kept his mind sane as Aevum was beginning to lose sight of what was behind him.

Glancing over at his bare right hand, Aevum smirked, "I'm cold. . ."

Eru accepted the cloth and saw the man get up and leave. She hurried herself to the bathroom and was happy that she could get the stench of milk off her skin. She didn't want to end up smelling like sour milk a couple of hours ahead of now.
