Introduction To Fate
"Again? Why? Have I not done enough? A life as an unsent has never been such a hell... Jecht... Is this always to be our fate?"
Thoughts poured into the mind of the lone warrior as he stood tall at the arena gate. The Underworld was, needless to say, a dark and horrid place. The fire of torches of unnatural descent lit up the cavern-like arena as if it was broad daylight.
"Fate... That's an thought for the ages... What of fate? What of me? What of this new life I've been brought to? Jecht... It was so much easier before..."
Again the warrior found himself lost in thought, but he was soon to be ripped back into reality. The announcing voice of Hades echoed across the cavern like a giddy school boy. Fans the warrior had noticed before lined the stands around the arena, and their roar was in-human. Far worse than any war cry he'd heard in all his battles.
"Ladies, Gentlemen, and the rest of you out there, I give you Auron: Champion of Hades! Auron take a bow for the audience." his voice was cool, on target, almost like a smooth talking salesman. With it though came a power unlike Auron had ever felt. It gripped his back, forcing him to bend into a bow, then it pulled him back up straight.
"God I hate this... this... thing so much. Jecht... Is this how you felt for all those years?"
The voice was still booming around the arena, but the warrior only heard his own thoughts. After a while, he coulnd't even hear those, there was only the cries of the fans. They were like cannibalistic scavengers, seeking out every inch of dignity the warrior had. Their noise tore at him like a pair of finely grown talons.
"Is this my fate...? This life...?"
For a moment all was still as the gates on the other side of the arena lowerd. Auron, his massive katana resting on his shoulder as normal, readied himself as a final thought etched into his mind.
"No!"
Then came the enemy. A monster of a man, nearly ten feet tall and well over a ton! He stood with a tree in each hand and he sludge out into the arena like a mindless scape goat. What kind of monster's did they grow here? It didn't matter, the warrior would surive... He had too! There was no other option, no plan B, he would survive this like all the others. As long as he kept on winning there was always a chance to get away!
"Enough!" roared the warrior as he braced himself like he had so many battles before. The crowd went silent, even the loud mouth Hades quieted his tone. This was Auron's arena, and everyone knew it, even if Hades pulled all the strings.
"Jecht... Jecht... Farewell..."

Night-terrors While You Wake
It felt like days since his last battle. In all honesty, it had been merely hours. The ever chaning mind of Auron had a new, horrid thought. It wasn't Hades or the opponent that had affected him so. It was the crowd. They had emblazoned a whole new thought into his ever-full mind.
"Those eyes! That daunting yellow glow... No mouthes, no ears... Just eyes. With skin blacker than any midnight, they were! With hands, with claws, they ripped at me. They were soul-less... Far worst than any demon."
His mind raced, and raced, the picture of the crowd everywhere he looked. In his cold barrack's cell he sat, topless. His stone bed was cold. The walls were cold. The air was cold. Hell even the thought of cold was cold. But Auron never felt any of it. He was far too entranced by this new thought, this new... enemy?
"Demons... Sin spawn... Jecht? What are they?"
Then a heat washed over the room, a faint one, but in a room this cold, the slightest bit of heat was noticed. In a matter of minutes someone stood outside his cell, looking in at him. There stood Hades, wrapped in black, his head ablaze with blue flame, and a smile of sharp teeth that just screamed evil. Most men would have cowered before the god, Auron just stared at it through his glasses.
"Please... Don't get up! I'll get it myself." mocked the god, chuckling slightly as he phased through the bars and stood before Auron. "Can you hear that crowd! They want more! It's a zoo out there! People are dying to see you! Literally"
"I kill people... That's what I do..."
Once again the warrior was neck deep in thought as the god rambled on and on about how great Auron had fought. Honestly, it was a mixture of thoughts now. First there was the crowd, and their way of eating a man's dignity. Then there was a new sense of remorse for all the people he'd somehow helped to their demise. He knew that feeling... Death... Being an Unsent he'd felt it long ago. He feared it... Hated it... Longed for it.
For a moment Auron was entranced by his first thought again, searching the room for an answer. Then... Everything changed.
"Heartless..."
It wasn't a thought. It wasn't a memory. It wasn't a word, merely a whisper in the wind. The warrior stared back at the god. Hades, just smiled. Auron thought that it was him who had said the word.
"Yes! Marvel... I'm used to it. Takes quite a mind to double the population of this dump. Little known fact, people don't buy time-shares or condo's here for some reason." joked the god, tooting his own horn. Instantly Auron knew that not only had the god not said the word, but he hadn't even heard it. That meant.... It was time to leave.
"The Underworld... Hades... Farewell."

Prisonbreak!!
"Farewell? You dare think if leaving me!? Me of all people!" mocked Hades as he forced Auron look up at him. It was the same feeling from the arena, like someone else was in control and you were just a puppet.
"Jecht... I hate this... He can read thoughts?"
"Hmph..." grunted Auron looking his oppessor over. Hades had a way of smiling with a sick intent. To those who didn't know, he was a charmer, a fun loving guy. To those who knew him though, he was a swine; a horrid mixture of charisma and malice. The warrior... hated him.
"Hmph!? That's all you have to say!?" roared the god, his anger was fuming. The fire on his head wrapped all the way down his arms, climbing to all new heights. The warrior sat unimpressed. The first time, Auron had made the mistake of comparing Hades to Lulu. The two were not alike, and the warrior had learned that the hard way.
It was now that Auron decided to act. He'd been experimenting every battle with his kinetic energy surges, seeing how it affected the god's ability to control him. The experiments had proven successful. The countering kinetic energy stopped all the control the god had. It was a grand day!
"Song of Souls..."
In a flash Auron's katana was in his hand and he was on his feet. For a moment the same cruel shiver crept up his body, forcing him to sit, but only for a moment. It was then he'd energized himself in what felt like lifetimes. Kinetic energy cracked and cackled across the room, and for a moment... Hades was afraid of Auron. The warrior stood up to his full height, still far shorter than the god, and braced himself.
"Enough!" boomed the warrior, his blade singing so pristinely through the god's torso. It wasn't meant to kill, cause you can't kill a god, but you could banish. And so it was. Hades, screaming and crying, was banished back to his own halls. For the time being, Auron was free!
"Jecht... Have you ever felt this kind of release?"
The katana gleemed in the glow of the torches that lined the cells as it cut through the stone bars. Two swips, that's all that was needed. Then there was a hole Auron could walk out of. Pulling his shirt back up, along with his coat, he fixed all his clothing. His left arm sat as normal, almost like it was broken, while his right balanced his katana upon his shoulder.
The halls were just as cold as the cell, and long to say the least. To his left, Auron saw nothing but the the end wall. He was the last cell, it had always been this way. So, the warrior began the long walk down the corridor. There were hundreds of cells, all holding minor beasts and hopeless humans. All but one. Auron was stopped by one sight.
There was a man, he looked no older than Tidus. The man was kneeling, the air around him so hot, so vibrantly hot. The stone's glowed red. Even Auron's skin hurt from the heat, but the man sat unmoved.
"Jecht... What is this?"
It was then the eyes of the man opened, and he stood up to his full height. He was only a bit taller than Auron, himself, though he was much different. He wore simple robes, like the monks back home in Spire. Then, something tinged inside Auron. He knew what this man was...
"By Sin... Jecht... He's an unsent!"
"Hello. You must be Auron. Hades speaks rather highly of you." the man spoke with a respectful tone, but it wasn no secret that he was powerful. "But... I am no lackey! So save your stories! If I am to face you in this arena, prepare yourself! I don't lose!"
Auron took a step back, looking the man over. Apparenlty he was new to the life as an Unsent, or he'd never seen any others. The warrior looked over the man and smiled with a nod.
"You'll do." stated the warrior slowy before removing the stone bars from the cell. The man stood for a moment, in surprise and confusion.
"You... You are an Unsent? Haha! Many apologies, Auron! Many! Many! Many Apologies! I thought... Well it matters not now! We must make haste!" bellowed the overly excited man. He made his way out of the cell and nodded to Auron. "It seems I have forgotten my own respect. My name is Rowen. I'm an Unsent Pyro to say the least."
With that, Auron had to laugh a bit. "Why yes friend, I would say so."
With that the two men exchanged firm forearm shakes before continuing down the hall. The walk would be long, the battles far worse, and above all... If they failed, the warth of Hades would be unimaginable!
"Jecht... Rowen... Farewell..."

The Crowd Goes Wild!
"They're everywhere... Jecht... It's getting harder..."
The two companions had made their way all the way down the hall. Sadly, the only way out of the Underworld was on the other side of the Arena. The cells only connected to the arena, so there was no choice. Fight of flight, and both men had come far too far to not fight. So they had moved into the arena.
"They're still here? Do these people never leave!?" asked Rowen, his voice a mild roar of surprise. The crowd was still there, sitting, waiting, schemeing. Auron could see the true crowd broad as daylight. They were the same as before. Rowen, hadn't noticed the crowd during his battle that thoroughly. Now he saw it all.
"Heartless..."
The whisper on the wind came again and both companions looked at each other. Each thought the other had said the word. Rowen just shook away the thought as he pulled his handaxe from his belt, along with his shortsword out, reverse grip.
"Jecht...? Jecht...? Is that you?" "Sin... You've made these creatures!"
Both men had thoughts; both thoughts were very different. That was all they could do though, because in that moment, the crowd was upon them. Hundreds upon hundreds of heartless were pouring down around them. Auron, his mind still racing, braced himself like all the fights before. Rowen, completely clear of thoughts now, let out a roar and his adrenaline poured into his system.
"Prepare yourself!" warned Auron, not only to the heartless but also his ally. "Come on! Who's first into the furnace!?" came the reply of his companion.
Auron was ready, were the heartless? It was time to find out. Taking a strong step forward, Auron brought his blade through one cleanly. In a small puff of black smoke the thing was gone. The next thing he knew, his blade was in a flourish and black smoke was going up in small little puffs all around him. Finally, with a focused grunt he brought his blade straight down into the ground. A burst of kinetic energy went out clearing all the smoke and heartless for a ten yard radius.
"There are so many... Jecht... What are they? For every one dead, two more appear... Is this your doing?"
Rowen on the other hand seemed to be enjoying all the combat. His axe was singing through heartless, his shortsword not far behind. Flames were erupting here and there in the bigger groups to dispatch them. He was a mobile geyser! "Burn! Burn! And still they come!? Sin spawn! All of them!"
A pulse of flames went out around the pyro, and the area was cleared for a moment. In that moment, it seemed all the heartless were retreating. Rowen had to stop and smile at his own victory.
"We've won! Auron, we've won!" gloated the pyro, bits of flame dancing off his fingertips. "No... They are not done yet..."
After only a few moments of peace, the horde of hearltess were back again. It seemed as though they'd never end! This easy enemy had too many numbers! For a moment, a fear washed over Auron that he would never surive this place.
"Fate... Destiny... Jecht... Farewell..."

It was a dark and chilling place, the Underworld.
Though Aevum expected the dead to simply be wallowing in their own despair, it more seemed like the bustling slums in his old world.
Why was such a commotion in such an incredibly tormenting place?
He couldn't see a person in sight, or a spirit, yet the sounds were clear, loud cheering and yelling far off in the distance.
Glancing far out off of the massive black cliff deep down in the Underworld, some shining lights in the mist caught his eyes.
Something is there. . . A castle? Aevum's eyes squinted as the mist slowly began to clear, as if waiting to surprise someone with what it was hiding.
There the massive underground coliseum began to show itself. Before it even was fully visible, Aevum was already walking towards it on the shaky bridge.
"Hey, you here watchin' or fightin'? You don't look like a spirit." A man behind a desk glared at him. He was definitely a oversized man, with more rolls on his chin than in his curly hair. However, what stuck out was his single red eye, which was as big as a hand.
". . . Hmmm?" Aevum felt an incredible surge of power coming from within the coliseum. Curious as to the origins, Aevum ignored the man and began to walk into one of the two chambers leading further into the coliseum.
"Hey, you-!" The cyclops grabbed Aevum's shoulder tightly, but Aevum acted as if a fly had only landed on it. Turning his head back to glance at the monster, Aevum's indifferent face turned to a frown.
Though the cyclops was stunned by the aura this man was emitting, no sooner did he steel himself to speak again, a Shadow jumped from Aevum's hair, its claw already reeled back to attack.
Walking away from the cyclops and the summoned Heartless, Aevum didn't worry on whether his Heartless would survive or not, he had plenty more.
And besides, killing wasn't his intent.
Wandering through the dark tunnels for seemingly ever, finally he found himself walking out in the open, though noise began to attack his ears like swords.
"Another one!" A member in the crowd spotted Aevum and pointed, the other members of the crowd quickly following in a happy jeer.
Seeing two men fighting against the horde of heartless in front of them, Aevum walked up to them as if he already knew them.
"Don't try to take them all, just destroy them while moving forward. Protect your back."
Though Aevum had never fought in the coliseum before, Aevum was used to fighting Heartless, especially Shadows. Taking out his keyblade, his long black hair began to twitch madly as he began to ready himself for the battle ahead.
However, first he needed orders.

Enter, Stage Right: Friend of Foe?
The crowd roared and booed. Half of them wanted to the see the heroes win, the other half, just wanted to see something killed... again. Auron was used to this kind of primal behavior and hated it. Rowen on the other hand used it like a tool. Every person who cheered got a roar in return, every boo drove another heartless to their grave. He was a sight to behold to say the least.
The pyro's adrenaline had taken him to level's he loved and hated. His biceps were splitting from the muscle expansion, hell even his abs, shoulders, calves, every major muscle group was forcing the skin to split due the adrenaline being produced in mass. It was then that a voice echoed across the arena.
"Don't try to take them all, just destroy them while moving forward. Protect your back." came echoing down from a man that only Auron had the right state of mind to give notice. The unsent warrior gave the tip a welcome nod before grabbing his partner and sening him flying towards the exit. Rowen had heard the words, they had even made sense to him, he just hadn't reacted as fast as Auron.
"Auron! I'll lead!" roared the pyro, sending a shortsword up and through one of the hearless's chin's. The warrior just nodded and continued on. His katana was no longer using finesse, he didn't need to. He was merely swinging the blade around, keeping control of it, anything it touched it destoryed, but still the heartless came.
"Jecht... Is that you? Are you to save me again?"
The warrior was lost in thought for a moment, but still he fought. The pyro was moving too quickly, killing things too rapidly. This adrenaline of his was starting to look more of a curse. "Rowen!"
The pyro looked back to Auron, who was beginning to get surrouned, not unlike Rowen himself. With a snarl he raised his arm through the air like he was raising up a heavy person. Fire erupted in a fissure that cut through the ranks of heartless. "Just ash! That's all they'll ever be!"

Taking his keyblade and slicing a Shadow that approached him with such quick speed that the Heartless took a few more staggering steps before he fell to the ground in a dark oozy substance.
His black hair reaching out and taking in the dark remains like a mosquito, Aevum began to build up his magic.
Looking for but a moment as the other two had already near perfect synchronization with each other, Aevum quickly decided that if they were to overcome this 'flood' they needed a 'floodgate'
However, before Aevum could do anything, he noticed one of the men was swimming to far into the 'ocean'.
He's moving forward too fast. . . Scowling at the man burning the heartless ahead of him, Aevum quickly leaped forward, several heartless jumping from his body as if they were always there.
Fall. . . . Aevum closed his eyes and focused with his keyblade. Killing all of his own heartless in mid-air with a swing that encompassed all around him, the remains of the heartless fell to the ground in the form of spikes, the small blades quickly taking out several of the renegade Heartless below.
As the Heartless below him burst into darkness, Aevum quickly landed and blocked the claw of a armed heartless behind him.
The sword hitting his keyblade with a resounding noise, Aevum kicked the heartless in the side of the head, knocking it away.
This was getting them nowhere.
Though they had synchronization at first, the fire-user was going too far off on his own.
Glancing at Auron, he wandered just how long the other two could last.
"!" Twisting around as a Heatless jumped on him, Aevum managed to block his face with his arm, though now the black creature was wrapped around his left arm.
Grabbing it by the neck, Aevum yanked it off of his arm and held it in front of another Heartless, who unwittedly swung its blade at Aevum, not expecting him to use another heartless as a shield.
"Keep going."

Do You Wish To Dance?
For a moment, Auron wasn't sure what to think of the new comer. He had a certain look of him, and the way he moved and acted, he seemed he could be a tamer of these enemies.
"It's not you... Jecht... I thought..."
But the warrior was quickly brought back to reality when he realized Rowen's stop had only been momentary. The pryo was still moving though the enemies like a hot knife through butter.
"This... This child will be the end of me... Jecht, does he not think?"
The pyro had a set of claws locked on his shortsword while his axe deflected another oncoming heartless. It was finally sinking in that he'd gotten too far out. "Damn it all! This fire will not be quenched!"
Too soon had the pyro said those words. A clawed hand moved to cut deep across the pyro's face. It was on target, flying true, and then it was dismembered. There was Auron, energized to the max! His left arm, usually limp was out of the coat and holding the katana. With both hands the warrior began his circle.
Kinetic energy shrieked and cascaded across the blade as he brought it into one heartless's defense. The beast meant to parry, he failed. The hit sent a wave of energy out that brought most of the enemies to rest. "Rowen, enough!"
The pyro felt as if he were a child being scolded, but he had acted as much. With a nod and a snarl, he looked back towards their temporary ally, the unknown man who wielded... a big key!? It didn't matter now, Rowen didn't have time to ask question. Relieving himself of the weapon lock on his sword he dismembered a heartless from his hands and then sent a glare towards another that made it's shoulders' explode in flame.
Auron was now back to his normal fighting, most of his kinetic energy all but drained. It was a show to be seen. The crowd was now only roaring for victory. The two companions jumped back to the middle of their circle of death and stood back to back.
"What you think, Auron?" asked the pyro in a cocky tone. "Hmph!" came the grunt of a reply.
The two lashed out almost simutaneously. They had known each other maybe a whole hour and they already were working together too perfectly. Who knew why? Auron thought he did.
"Jecht... He moves... Just like you. Have you? No..."
The thought ended almost as it had began. Again the two companions jumped back, back to back, and stared at the opponents around them. This time, only Auron spoke.
"Farewell..." came the word as he brought his Katana up through one of the heartless' torso and then around to decapitate the enemy.

This truly was a spectacle.
Even in The World That Never Was, there rarely was an influx of so many heartless in one place.
Was it the people in the coliseum that lured them, here, or were they controlled?
Keeping himself in motion, Aevum crossed his arms and watched as he was surrounded by heartless.
His hair spreading out and stabbing each one in the forehead, the hair suddenly shifted shape. Like a black clay, the long bangs of hair turned into their true form. Shadow Heartless.
These being the last majority of his summoned heartless, Aevum's black hair had shrunk all the way back to his knees, their natural length.
In short, he only had a handful of Heartless left, and with them, a small amount of magic remaining.
Seven heartless of his own rushing among the swarm of other heartless, Aevum's creatures attacked madly, spreading out in one direction, everything they saw was an enemy.
However, the enemy heartless seemed almost confused that their own kind was attacking them.
"Hold them for a few minutes." Aevum's voice came clear, yet soft amongst the crowd of people. Though audible among the others in the arena with him, no doubt no one else could hear him.
He was gathering energy for a teleportation rift.
It took quite a deal of magic, probably the last bit he had, but even if he wasn't supposed to affiliate himself with them, there was no question that he was heavily outnumbered. He didn't expect much from the fire-user, as he appeared to be independent, but the sword-user appeared to be on the same wave-length as he.
A minor miscalculation in coming here indeed.

Meditation! No Breathing!
Auron nodded sending a commanding glance over to the pyro. Rowen nodded as well. Both men cut their way over to the new-comer and made a mad sweep of the area around him. They didn't know of anything but the enemy and the new comer, so any and every heartless was destoryed if they came within arm's reach.
Auron looked back at the pyro and nodded towards the new-comer. "Meditate! Like before."
Rowen was caught off guard. He'd never tried to meditate during battle, it wasn't something he thought possible. With a shrug though it seemed like an amazing idea. During his meditation his flames were always so much stronger, why didn't he ever think of this before?
So there the pyro knelt, only a few feet away from the new-comer, his eyes closed and pockets of flame opened up around him. It would take only a moment for him to clear his mind, then came the clarity of meditation. Pillars of flame erupted here and there, waves of fire pured from the forehead of the pyro. He was surviving on magic, and it wouldn't be long that he'd be completely out and be forced to just use his blades.
"Jecht... Sin was never a challenge like this..."
Auron was entranced and amazed by the pyro. Again the air was heavy, thick, hot. It was hard to breathe for a moment, but only a moment. Then Auron was used to it and he was back to normal. His katana caught two pairs of claws that raked for the new-comer, it sent them flying back into the horde.
In midflight a geyser of flame devoured them.
With that, the katana was back upon Auron's shoulder for a moment. He struck out with his left arm, full on punching one of the heartless back into a group to slow them.
A pulse of flame ate the group.
Then he brought his katana around, pummeling one heartless to the dirt. Another one struck for the throat, but a quickly moving blade the size of Song of Souls denied the heartless almost instantly.
An explosion erupted behind enemy lines.
"By Sin... Jecht... This unsent could be the end of me or my salvation every time he breathes..."

Keeping his eyes open admist the battle, Aevum carefully analyzed both of the men's techniques.
With the sword-user being an excellent close-ranged fighter, and the fire-user being near invincible at long-ranged attacks, the two of their powers seemed to exceed even his.
He didn't mind seeing his Heartless being killed amongst the others, as, even he did not know which were which. Though honestly, he'd have killed them anyway.
Its already starting . . Aevum closed his eyes as he felt his power rushing around his feet. Of course, what he was thinking of had nothing to do with the magical spell he was casting.
It wasn't meant to be used on others, but with more magic, surely it would work.
Darkness cirlcing Aevum's feet, it began to grow in circumference, slowly beginning to stretch further and further out.
Yes, Hollow Bastion would do nicely. It was out of the Dark Ones, reach, yet it also was safe for Aevum to travel. Well, at least outside the main city. Far out in the barren wasteland, he would be safe, and should they have the energy to travel, so would they.
As soon as everyone stepped on its boundries, Aevum would teleport them to outside of Hollow Bastion.
Of course, Aevum would not be following them.
Being a Dark One, appearing near a Rebellion faction planet would incur violence that he would rather not be a part of.
Glaring at the crowd while his mind was still running the processes of the spell, he couldn't believe that they were still jeering, even though it clearly has become a test of lives, and no longer one of valor.
Even as a Dark One, Aevum had to look down at these mindless fruits as ones even more dark than he.

The Final Farewell...
A final pulse of flame enwreathed an oncoming wave of heartless and Rowen was done. His meditation ended sharply with him coughing, bits of blood spatting the floor. He'd never used that much magic in one sitting, nor that big of an adrenaline rush. Snarling at his own weakness the pyro stood up and looked over to Auron.
Auron looked concerned with their chances at victory. He had one heartless hanging from his left, unused sleeve and another lunging at his throat. Spinning away from the heartless, he sent the one hanging to him rocketing into it's own and destoryed both. The warrior shot a glance back at the new-comer and hoped he knew what he was doing.
"Rowen, it's time to go." commanded Auron. The words were powerful, but Auron knew he wasn't sure what the new-comer was doing, but either way he hoped it would save them.
Rowen looked back, breathing heavy, the pyro brought himself to his feet. With a nod he lumbered over, still coughing. It was now only Auron in the front of the two men, fending off the heartless horde. With a snarl, the warrior realized he was done and jumped back beside his two newest allies.
"Jecht... I survived... I wish you could have felt this relieve..."
"Auron, you think these things are everywhere?" asked the pyro, his cough starting to lighten. "I hope not..."
"Are they, Jecht? What are they?"

"Thats it, time for Hades to make his celeb appearance!" Hades walked through the gates that Aevum had came through an hour before, his normally calm blue fire now a raging infernow that stretched all around his body.
"Head to the city. I hope that if we meet again, you will have become even stronger." Aevum grinned for the first time in eons as the darkness around their feet shot up around them like a shark jumping from the water.
The darkness quickly swallowing Rowen and Auron, it began to compress suddennly until it was nothing more than a speck.
Of course, they didn't feel anything, as their bodies were no longer here.
In fact, they were no longer on this planet at all.
Aevum, having used most of his magic to teleport and help defend the others, only had the magic to teleport himself somewhere else on 'this' planet.
Thinking of a secluded place, Aevum watched as a blast of fire almost took his head right off.
Hades, trying to stun the only person left in his coliseum, glared at Aevum with intense contempt. "Whoa there, sport. I was just wondering if you'd stay and try to take the title of Strongest Muchacho in Hell?"
Aevum's smile faded as the darkness began to swirl around him. The fact that Hades did not kill him then must mean that Aevum's job had not yet been completed.
The darkness quickly swallowing him in the same manner it did for Rowen and Auron, Aevum vanished from sight.
"Hey, don't leave!"
After all, without chaos, nothing would evolve.
